School grades provide an easily understandable metric to measure the performance of a school. Parents and the general public can use the school grade and its associated components to understand how well each school is serving its students.

The school grades calculation was revised substantially for the school year to implement statutory changes made by the Legislature and incorporate the new Florida Standards Assessments FSA. The school grades model uses the new school grades model adopted for and includes the new learning gains components for the first time. The ACT college readiness assessment is a standardized test for high school achievement and college admissions in the United States. The ACT assessment measures high school students' general educational development and their capability to complete college-level work with the multiple choice tests covering four skill areas: English, mathematics, reading, and science and optionally Writing.

The main four tests are scored individually on a scale of 1—36, and a Composite score is provided which is the whole number average of the four scores. It was formerly developed, published, and scored by the Educational Testing Service[1] which still administers the exam.

The test is intended to assess a student's readiness for college. It was first introduced in Possible scores range from to , combining test results from three point sections Mathematics, Critical Reading, and Writing. Advanced Placement examinations are taken as the culmination of year-long Advanced Placement AP courses. All but one of the AP exams combine multiple-choice questions with a free-response section in either essay or problem-solving format.

AP Studio Art, the sole exception, requires students to submit a portfolio for review. High schoolers must pass the exam to graduate.

Detailed information about the testing system is available to parents at the Florida Department of Education website, www. Florida does not require private schools to administer the FSA, however, private schools that have enrolled at least one Florida Tax Credit Scholarship student or one enrolled Personal Learning Scholarship Account student must administer one of 15 nationally norm-referenced tests identified by the Department of Education, or may apply to the Florida Department of Education to administer.
